TIE Foundation Donates 32,000 Pounds of Beans and Rice to TD3 Kids
On December 1, Tempe Impacts Education (TIE) Foundation and Tempe Sunrise Kiwanis kicked off the 25th annual Beans and Rice program. This year, 32,000 total pounds of beans and rice were donated to Tempe Elementary families.
The program began in 1993 with the Wilkins family donating 2,000 pounds of beans and rice to Frank Elementary School. This year, beans and rice were delivered to all 22 of the District’s elementary and middle schools.
A typical load for each school was 500 pounds of beans and 500 pounds of rice. Some schools received more based on family need.
Thirty-two thousand pounds of both beans and rice were distributed at a cost of $15,000. Thank you to our school staff, Facilities Management for Learners staff, and the Tempe Fire Department for contributing to the program’s success by helping to distribute beans and rice to our Tempe Elementary schools.
